Karmiel
Karmiel, founded in 1964, is the commercial, educational, cultural and industrial hub of the Galilee. Situated on a major east-west highway in a valley, separating the upper and lower regions of the Galilee, its location is central with respect to the major population centers of Northern Israel.
City of Karmiel
A community of close to 50,000, Karmiel is a planned modern city consisting of self-contained neighborhoods. It is the home of ORT Braude College of Engineering and a Performing Arts Cultural Center.
It is only a short ride to Tiberias and about 35 minutes to Haifa. Tel Aviv and Jerusalem can be reached by bus (from Karmiel) or by train (from Akko).
ORT Braude College of Engineering
ORT Braude College (OBC) was established in Karmiel with the goal of developing an academic center of quality education and research that would teach the different engineering fields and simultaneously work in cooperation with industry.
OBC is an integral partner in the Galilee’s development and promotion of the region’s high tech industries. The college’s goal—to broaden the accessibility of higher education.
ORT Braude College confers a Bachelor of Sciences (B.Sc.) degree in the following fields:
- Applied Mathematics
- Biotechnology Engineering
- Electrical and Electronic Engineering
- Industrial Engineering and Management
- Information Systems Engineering
- Software Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
OBC Campus
The OBC campus is a modern full-service campus with a wide range of services. This self-contained and enclosed college community provides for the needs of its students on campus. At the same time it is within close proximity to shops and other urban facilities in Karmiel.
The OBC campus facility includes:
Modern Classrooms – OBC classrooms meet North American standards and serve the needs of a large and diverse student body.
Residences – Students are housed in campus residences and are mixed with Israeli students at OBC. The residences for 2 to 4 occupants contain cooking facilities, dining area, study area and sleeping areas.
Dining Facilities – The meal plan provides hot food for students at the campus cafeteria
Laundry- There is a coin operated laundromat on campus for use by students.
